The base of the rootball had a large knot of wood that prevented the tree from sitting low enough in its new bonsai pot.

And so, using an electric reciprocating saw, I removed the base of the tree.

With the size of the rootball reduced, the Privet could then planted into a suitably-sized bonsai pot.

March 2012: The privet bonsai finally planted into its first bonsai pot.

December 2012: The bonsai was allowed to 'rest' throughout the growing season of 2012 while it recuperated from the heavy carving, root-pruning and styling of the previous 6 months. As the growing season came to a close, I pruned back and wired the new growth ready for the growing season of 2013.
